The Research Study
The PFL approach we are using in this program to facilitate family service was developed in Ireland beginning in 2008. The original program was also evaluated by an RCT.
The PFL program has already shown great results in Ireland. A recent study found that children who participated had better thinking and social skills by age nine. In November 2023, PFL was added to the US Department of Health and Human Services Home Visiting Evidence of Effectiveness (HomVEE) list. This means the program meets high government standards and has been proven to create lasting, positive changes for children and families.
Although the Creciendo Juntos project will be designed as closely as possible to the original study, it is not a replication study as the program will be adapted to meet the different circumstances faced by the target population in Chicago. The key principles of PFL’s supportive, flexible and parent-centered approach will be maintained, however content and delivery will be tailored to meet the needs of the target community, as well as to reflect changes in best practices between the start of the original trial and today. This has led us to design a similar, yet updated and culturally responsive research project.
More details on the study parameters will be available soon.
